The popularity of the "Ottertail paddle" is not surprising - it simply paddles well. The reason for this can be found in the logic of the blade construction. The narrow tip dives quietly and without resistance into the water and the wide area in the upper third of the blade then allows the effective forward stroke. So it is easy to imagine that paddles of this type were the perfect hunting paddles for the Indians. I use it as a light and robust touring paddle. The ottertail model has a simple standard handle here.
